NEWCEM

Slag Cement

Lafarge NewCem® is a supplementary cementitious material (SCM), offering a tested solution to enhance the specific qualities of concrete when used in controlled proportions.

What is Slag?

Slag, produced during the iron-manufacturing process, is born when raw materials undergo melting within the intense heat of a blast furnace, reaching a molten state.

Slag undergoes a structural transformation as it cools rapidly through granulation, gaining cementitious properties. Ground to a finer consistency than GU Portland cement, it becomes ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), ready for shipment to our customers.

Unlocking NewCem® Slag Cement Advantage

For top-quality slag, consistent chemistry from a reliable source and rapid slag quenching equipment are essential.

Lafarge engineers and scientists have led North America in the research and development of specifications for slag. Today, Lafarge’s knowledge and technical experience are unequalled by any other producer of GGBFS. Lafarge’s technical staff is available to ready-mixed concrete producers, engineers and specifiers for questions about the proper use of NewCem® in any application.
