MEASURING FOR A NATURE-POSITIVE IMPACT: BIRS TRAINING IN ONTARIO

In partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Holcim developed the Biodiversity Indicator Reporting System (BIRS). The methodology aims to measure biodiversity at our sites and improve our actions to restore it. By measuring biodiversity, we can manage it better and ensure a positive impact on nature in our sites.

In 2023, Lafarge Canada, a member of Holcim, completed the BIRS training in our Eastern Canada region, giving our team the tools they need to deploy it. BIRS will help us achieve our biodiversity targets and make a measurable positive impact at all our sites. Our Uxbridge and Fonthill pits in Ontario were two of the sites for the BIRS training.
