Lafarge Canada receives Industry Recognition for its ongoing commitment to rehabilitation, community involvement and property enhancement
Mississauga, February 25, 2021—We are very pleased to announce that our Aggregates team in Eastern Canada has been recognized by the Ontario Sand, Stone and Gravel Association (OSSGA) for its commitment to rehabilitation, community involvement and property enhancements efforts in 2020. OSSGA’s Industry Recognition Awards Program recognizes a wide range of activities that contribute to the progressive image of the aggregate industry. This is key to raising the bar in the aggregate industry, and highlighting the producers that go above and beyond expectations.
“Lafarge Canada is proud to be a valued part of the local communities we serve and to provide construction solutions that build better cities. We are committed to continue operating under the highest industry standards, while accelerating our journey towards Net Zero through innovation and technology. Receiving this Industry Recognition Award by OSSGA is appreciated by our entire team. We intend to continue to create value for the communities in which we live and work, now and in the years to come,” explained Peter Sanguineti, VPGM, Aggregates, Eastern Canada.
The most sought-after awards include, but are not limited to, Community Relations, Progressive Rehabilitation, Property Enhancement, and Biodiversity—of which we’ve received three as follows:
Judges' Choice Award for Progressive Rehabilitation at the Lawford Pit, where the team at the site managed to quickly re-establish the pit floor back to agricultural land while promoting the expansion of the Credit River and Core Greenland forest.
Biodiversity Award at the Uxbridge-Regan Pit; which we received for our work to help to engage people, reduce threats, enhance resilience, and improve knowledge, in line with the four pillars in the Ontario Biodiversity Strategy Framework.
Property Enhancement Award (Gold Bar) at the Cambridge Pit, following extensive work that emphasize the importance of the site’s social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Lafarge’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitation, community involvement, and property enhancement is a testament to our hard working team. We are humbled to receive these prestigious awards and industry recognition as we continue our efforts to promote a more sustainable way of building Canada.
The Ontario Sand, Stone and Gravel Association (OSSGA) is a not-for-profit industry association representing over 280 sand, gravel, and crushed stone producers and suppliers of valuable industry products and services. Collectively, our members supply the substantial majority of the approximately 164 million tonnes of aggregate consumed annually in the province to build and maintain Ontario’s infrastructure needs. OSSGA works in partnership with government and the public to promote a safe and competitive aggregate industry contributing to the creation of strong communities in the province.
