DURAPHALT HM

Heavy Duty Asphalt Solutions

Duraphalt HM® (High Modulus) is a heavy-duty asphalt based on stone mastic asphalt technology designed to reduce wheel rut damage caused by heavy and/or slow-moving vehicles.

Duraphalt HM consists of a stone-on-stone aggregate skeleton with a mastic comprising mineral filler, fibre or asphalt shingle modifier (ASM), and Glossary Performance Graded Asphalt Cements (PGAC) and/or polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) cement. The stone-on-stone aggregate skeleton (gap-graded) provides excellent rut resistance against very heavy, slow-moving wheel loads, and the mastic coats the coarse aggregate, creating a very high film thickness for exceptional durability.

Applications

The use of polymer-modified asphalt is recommended for heavy-duty commercial and industrial applications, such as industrial estates, ports, docks and container areas, warehouses, and commercial premises.

Duraphalt HM may also be used for pavement applications where heavy goods vehicle (HGV) distress has caused damage and failures with more conventional hot mix asphalts, especially at intersections, traffic circles and areas where wheel track rutting is an issue.

Duraphalt HM® Performance

Duraphalt HM has been subjected to a rigorous performance testing regime, providing the following performance results:

  1. Wheel-rut test depths less than or equal to 5.0 mm and 8.0 mm after 8,000 cycles at the standard high temperature using the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer Wheel Rut Test (APA WRT) for heavy-duty application and medium/light-duty applications, respectively, AASHTO TP 63.
  2. A minimum fatigue resistance to failure of 150,000 cycles at 480µm and 18 degrees C, AASHTO T 321.

Technical Benefits of Duraphalt® HM

  • Improved fatigue resistance and durability
  • Enhanced tire noise reduction
  • Increased safety through enhanced macro texture, providing spray reduction and increased skid resistance
  • Improved design life by a minimum of four years
  • Improved life-cycle costs through maintenance cost reductions
