JULY 2020 - BIRCH ISLAND, ON: Lafarge Canada’s Whitefish River Terminal celebrated their 45th Accident/Incident Free year in 2019, and we would like to take this opportunity to
thank each and every employee that has helped to make this possible.
The Whitefish terminal employees are faced with many challenges each year including the arrival of the vessels. The vessel schedule begins in April and ends in December, under frequently unpleasant working conditions with wind blowing, snow falling and temperatures below freezing. Regardless of what this team is up against, they strive through and make safety their number 1 mission. Along with the safety day celebrations, the Terminal hosted their annual community fish fry. Opening ceremonies were performed by George Gardner and Chief
Franklin Paibomsai (Shining Turtle) which also included the traditional smudge ceremony. There are usually approximately 260 in attendance from the community as well as a number of Lafarge management personnel who attend this celebration. A huge thank you goes out to those volunteers who helped in the preparation of and serving the meal. Following the feast, there were speeches, safety award presentations to the terminal employees as well as prizes that were drawn for the community attendees.
